Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, a former employee of Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC TV), has been named the new King of Tooro, following the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru
Rukidi IV.
Kijanangoma is among the individuals whose names have emerged in discussions surrounding the succession of the Tooro throne. His name was also listed among potential successors following the passing of King Oyo.
His reported elevation marks a significant moment for the Tooro Kingdom, which is now preparing for a new chapter after the death of King Oyo, who ascended to the throne as a child and became one of Uganda’s most recognised cultural leaders.
Kijanangoma’s previous experience at UBC TV has also brought renewed public interest in his background as he takes on the responsibilities associated with the Tooro monarchy.
The new leadership is expected to focus on preserving Tooro’s cultural heritage while continuing programmes aimed at strengthening the unity and development of the kingdom.
