KAMPALA
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to receive the body of the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, whose remains are expected to arrive in Uganda on Thursday.
The arrival will mark a significant moment in the national mourning of the Tooro monarch, whose death has attracted messages of condolence from leaders, cultural institutions and members of the public in Uganda and beyond.
President Museveni is expected to lead government officials in receiving the remains as preparations continue for the official burial programme.
The death of King Oyo has triggered widespread mourning across the Tooro Kingdom, with cultural leaders, political figures and the public paying tribute to the monarch’s contribution to the kingdom and Uganda at large.
Following the arrival of the body, attention will shift to the official programme for viewing, cultural rites and the eventual burial of the King.
Tooro Kingdom authorities have been coordinating with government and other stakeholders to ensure that the final ceremonies are conducted in accordance with the kingdom’s cultural traditions and national protocols.
King Oyo, who became Omukama of Tooro at a young age, served as the kingdom’s cultural leader for decades and was widely recognised as one of Uganda’s most prominent traditional rulers.
His passing has also renewed public attention on the importance of cultural institutions in preserving Uganda’s heritage and identity.
The expected reception of his remains by President Museveni is likely to bring together senior government officials, members of the royal family, Tooro Kingdom officials and other dignitaries.
As preparations intensify, the Tooro Kingdom is expected to release further details on the programme surrounding the King’s return and burial.
The arrival on Thursday will consequently open a new chapter in the mourning period, as the kingdom prepares to give its late monarch a final farewell.
