What began as a small kiosk in Kabale has grown into a remarkable business legacy, making Goodra Tumusiime Behakanira’s story one of Uganda’s inspiring examples of resilience, faith and entrepreneurship.
Her extraordinary journey took centre stage during a thanksgiving celebration at Speke Resort Munyonyo, where some of Uganda’s most influential business leaders, government officials and distinguished guests gathered to celebrate a life shaped by perseverance and determination.
Among those in attendance was business magnate Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, alongside Kwagalana Group chairman Godfrey Kirumira, Cabinet Ministers Justine Kasule Lumumba and David Bahati, Members of Parliament and other prominent figures who joined in honouring Goodra’s achievements.
Sharing her testimony, Goodra recalled how her entrepreneurial journey began with a single kiosk in Kabale. Through discipline, hard work and an unwavering belief in God, she and her late husband gradually expanded the venture into a respected business empire despite numerous financial and personal setbacks.
She urged aspiring entrepreneurs to embrace patience, integrity and consistency, stressing that lasting success comes through persistence rather than shortcuts.
Beyond business, Goodra reflected on deeply personal moments that shaped her life, including waiting eight years before she and her husband were blessed with a child and surviving a near-fatal construction accident. She said those experiences strengthened her faith and reinforced her belief in God’s protection.
She also recounted supporting the National Resistance Army (NRA) during Uganda’s liberation struggle by providing logistical support, describing it as a contribution she made despite the risks involved.
Guests praised her testimony as a powerful reminder that determination, faith and resilience can overcome even the greatest obstacles. The gathering concluded with prayers, worship, entertainment and networking, as Uganda’s business community celebrated a woman whose journey continues to inspire generations of entrepreneurs.
