Some of Uganda’s most influential business executives, government officials and political leaders came together over the weekend to celebrate the life and achievements of renowned entrepreneur Goodra Tumusiime Behakanira during a thanksgiving dinner at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
The gathering attracted a cross-section of the country’s leadership, including businessman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, Kwagalana Group Chairman Godfrey Kirumira, Ministers Justine Kasule Lumumba and David Bahati, Members of Parliament, senior government officials and distinguished guests.
Beyond celebrating Goodra’s personal milestones, the event became a meeting point for Uganda’s business community, highlighting the growing role of entrepreneurship in national development and wealth creation.
Addressing the guests, Goodra reflected on her journey from operating a small kiosk in Kabale to building a successful business empire alongside her late husband. She credited discipline, resilience and unwavering faith in God for helping them overcome numerous financial and personal challenges.
She urged young Ugandans to embrace hard work, patience and integrity, saying sustainable success is built over time through consistency rather than shortcuts.
Goodra also shared emotional testimonies about waiting eight years before she and her husband were blessed with a child and surviving a near-fatal construction accident. She described both experiences as defining moments that strengthened her faith and appreciation for life.
She further revealed that she supported the National Resistance Army during the liberation struggle by providing logistical support to the rebels, a contribution that earned admiration from many guests. The presence of NRA veteran Col. Samson Mande, who recently returned from exile, added historical significance to the occasion.
As the evening concluded with prayers, entertainment and networking, guests praised Goodra’s journey as a powerful example of how determination, faith and resilience can transform humble beginnings into lasting success while inspiring future generations of Ugandan entrepreneurs.
