Ugandan businessman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia has shared a humorous but unforgettable childhood memory from Kasese — a family outing that quickly turned from excitement into panic after their car stalled in front of a pride of lions.
Speaking during a one-on-one interview ahead of the PAP Global Awards 2026, Dr. Sudhir narrated how, as a young boy living in Kabatooro Village, his father decided to take the family on a wildlife adventure using his newly acquired Peugeot vehicle.
According to Sudhir, what was meant to be a simple family drive soon became a moment none of them would ever forget.
As they travelled, the family unexpectedly came across nearly 20 lions resting in the middle of the road. Excited by the rare sight, his father stopped the car so everyone could enjoy watching the animals from a safe distance.
But moments later, the situation changed.
When it was time to continue the journey, the car refused to start.
Inside the vehicle, excitement quickly gave way to tension as repeated attempts to ignite the engine failed while the lions remained nearby.
“We sweated plasma inside the car,” Sudhir recalled jokingly, describing the fear that gripped everyone during the ordeal.
After several unsuccessful attempts, the engine finally came back to life — and according to Sudhir, his father wasted no time.
“He drove off like we had not come to see the lions,” he said with laughter.
The story offered viewers a rare glimpse into the personal side of one of Uganda’s most recognized business figures, revealing childhood memories that continue to stay with him decades later.
