The Member of Parliament for Sironko District, , has called on the government to urgently intervene over the growing threat of landslides in the district, warning that more than 1,600 residents remain at risk.
Speaking during a parliamentary plenary sitting, the legislator said several families living in landslide-prone areas have not yet been relocated despite the increasing danger posed by the ongoing rains.
She urged the government to expedite the relocation process and provide the necessary support to affected communities before disaster strikes, emphasizing that delayed action could result in loss of lives and destruction of property.
The MP stressed that protecting vulnerable Ugandans should remain a national priority and appealed to the relevant government agencies to treat the situation with the urgency it deserves.
Her appeal comes amid renewed concerns over the recurring landslides that have frequently affected Sironko District, displacing families, destroying homes and livelihoods, and claiming lives in previous years.
