Officials from the National Drug Authority (NDA) have seized a consignment of suspected counterfeit human and veterinary drugs during an enforcement operation conducted in Kawempe and Kanyanya areas of Kampala.
The operation targeted drug outlets and storage facilities allegedly dealing in unregistered, substandard and illegally distributed medicines.
According to the Authority, three suspects were arrested during the crackdown and are currently being held at Kawempe Police Station as investigations continue.
NDA officials revealed that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to eliminate counterfeit and unsafe medicines from the market and protect public health. Authorities added that more arrests could follow as investigators trace the wider distribution chain behind the suspected illegal drug trade.
The Authority warned members of the public against purchasing medicines from unlicensed vendors, roadside sellers and unauthorized outlets, stressing that all medicines should be obtained through approved and regulated channels.
Officials cautioned that counterfeit and substandard drugs pose serious health risks to both humans and animals, including treatment failure, worsening illness and possible loss of life.
The NDA has pledged to intensify nationwide enforcement operations as part of broader efforts to strengthen drug safety and ensure only approved medicines reach consumers.
