The appointment of Hon. Sanjay Tanna as Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives is generating fresh expectations among business leaders and investors, with renewed calls for policies that translate economic growth into jobs and enterprise expansion.
Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony organised by the Indian Association Uganda in Kampala, several leaders used the occasion not only to celebrate political milestones but also to highlight the need for stronger collaboration between government and the private sector.
Business leaders noted that Uganda’s economic ambitions will require increased investment, improved industrial growth and an environment that enables entrepreneurs to scale operations and create employment opportunities.
Among those attending the event was businessman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, whose investments across sectors were cited as examples of private sector participation in national development.
Addressing guests, Hon. Sanjay Tanna pledged to prioritise trade promotion, industrialisation and investment attraction as key pillars of his tenure at the ministry.
He said Uganda remains positioned to compete for regional and international investment and stressed the importance of creating conditions that support business growth and economic transformation.
The event also recognised the election of Shyam Tanna as Member of Parliament for Tororo Municipality, with speakers expressing optimism that leadership and investment can work together to accelerate service delivery and local development.
Observers at the ceremony argued that beyond appointments and celebrations, the real measure of success will be the ability to convert investment commitments into jobs, stronger industries and improved livelihoods for ordinary Ugandans.
The ceremony ended with calls for sustained engagement between government, investors and communities as Uganda pursues broader economic growth targets.
