The newly elected Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Marksons Oboth, has issued a strong warning against corruption within Parliament, pledging to restore integrity and professionalism in the House.
Speaking shortly after his victory, Oboth said the fight against corruption must begin from within Parliament before leaders can point fingers at other government institutions.
“We must first check ourselves on corruption before criticizing other organs of government. Parliament must lead by example.”
Oboth also vowed to end what he described as “comedy” in Parliament, promising a more disciplined, people-centered House focused on addressing the real concerns of Ugandans.
“There will be no more comedy in Parliament. The people of Uganda deserve serious debate and accountable leadership.”
The Speaker further emphasized the need for professionalism, especially in the way Parliament engages with the media.
Oboth secured a commanding victory in the Speakership race, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Uganda’s legislative leadership.
