Businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia has been highlighted among property sector players adopting digital tax systems as the Uganda Revenue Authority steps up efforts to improve compliance in Uganda’s growing real estate industry.
Ruparelia was recognised by URA Commissioner General John R. Musinguzi during an engagement with city landlords, developers and investors, where he was cited as one of the pioneers using the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution (EFRIS).
The engagement focused on strengthening cooperation between URA and the property sector, with the tax body seeking to address challenges faced by landlords before resorting to enforcement.
Musinguzi said real estate contributes about 6–7 percent to Uganda’s GDP and plays a role in employment and supporting other sectors of the economy.
He said URA would provide landlords with technical support and guidance on EFRIS onboarding, while encouraging them to issue digital receipts to tenants as part of efforts to widen the tax base.
The engagement brought together several prominent property sector players, including Ambassador Godfrey Kirumira, as URA seeks to increase tax compliance and revenue from the real estate sector.
