Uganda’s construction sector is stepping up efforts to strengthen collaboration between industry associations and private investors in a move aimed at promoting sustainable infrastructure development and improving standards across the sector.
This follows a meeting between the Uganda National Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors (UNABSEC) and officials from VCON Construction (U) Ltd, part of the Ruparelia Group, where both parties discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation in advancing Uganda’s construction industry.
Led by UNABSEC President Mrs. Kiara Binta Nkuranga, the association’s delegation met Ruparelia Group Chairman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia and VCON General Manager Prabhat Mishra to explore initiatives that support innovation, professionalism, safety and sustainable construction practices.
The meeting also reaffirmed VCON Construction’s support for the 2nd Uganda Construction and Infrastructure Forum and Exhibition (UCIFE) 2026, as well as the Contractors’ Run 2026, events expected to bring together contractors, policymakers, engineers and industry stakeholders to discuss the future of Uganda’s infrastructure sector.
UNABSEC said stronger partnerships with leading construction firms are essential in promoting knowledge sharing, improving industry standards and creating opportunities for local contractors to participate in major infrastructure projects.
During the engagement, the association also paid tribute to the late Rajiv Ruparelia, acknowledging his contribution to Uganda’s construction industry and his support for initiatives that promoted sector growth.
Industry leaders believe collaboration between professional associations and established private companies will play a key role in building a more competitive construction sector capable of supporting Uganda’s development agenda through quality infrastructure, job creation and skills development.
