KAMPALA — Police are investigating a disturbing early-morning incident in Kalungu Bunga, Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, where two children died and three others were injured at a family home.
The incident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, and is being treated as a case of murder, attempted murder and arson.
According to police, a housemaid was alerted by an alarm and the cries of children calling for help. She rushed to the house and found several children with serious injuries.
Police identified the deceased as 14-year-old Khadija Daizy, who was found dead in her bedroom, and seven-year-old Hawa Dalena, who was rushed to Nsambya Hospital but later died while receiving treatment.
Three other children, aged 13, eight and five, survived the incident with injuries and were taken to hospital.
Police have named 43-year-old Namayo Dorothy, also known as Dorothy Namayo, a Kenyan national and the children’s mother, as a suspect. She was also injured during the incident and is receiving treatment at Mulago National Referral Hospital under police guard.
The incident also involved a fire that destroyed a Toyota Hiace vehicle parked at the property. Residents said they were alerted by the vehicle’s alarm and later heard children crying for help before forcing their way into the house.
Preliminary accounts from residents and local leaders have raised questions about what may have happened inside the home before the fire and the deaths. However, police have not yet established the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Investigators are expected to examine the scene, interview witnesses and establish how the deaths, injuries and vehicle fire are connected.
Police said investigations are ongoing and further details will be provided as inquiries progress.
The Ggaba incident is separate from an unrelated daycare incident reported in the area earlier in 2026.
