GoldStar Highlights Financial Strength as It Enters Fourth Decade
GoldStar Insurance Company Limited is entering its fourth decade in Uganda with renewed focus on financial strength, claims settlement and the use of technology to respond to changing customer needs.
The insurer, which started operations in January 1996, says its growth has been supported by strong capitalization and prudent management of its insurance business.
At the end of 2025, GoldStar reported a capital adequacy ratio of 311 percent, well above the 200 percent regulatory minimum, while its capital base stood at 43.6 billion shillings.
The company also retained its AA (UG) National Scale Financial Strength Rating with a Stable Outlook from GCR Ratings in May 2026.
GoldStar Chief Executive Officer John Kawuma said the company had written about 53 billion shillings in business and paid approximately 15 billion shillings in claims during the period under review.
The insurer says claims settlement remains central to its operations, with 69 billion shillings paid in claims over the five years covered by its corporate highlights.
GoldStar’s insurance revenue also grew by 21 percent to 51.2 billion shillings in 2025, while its market share increased to about 5.3 percent, driven by business in engineering, transport and other commercial insurance lines.
As it marks 30 years in Uganda, the company says it is shifting greater attention towards digital insurance platforms, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, enterprise management systems and staff development.
GoldStar says these investments are intended to strengthen customer service, improve operational efficiency and sustain its ability to meet obligations to policyholders as the insurance market continues to evolve.
